Reality: Revamped

So sorry Ladies and Gents...haven't been blessing you folks with my work for a while, and trust me that I've been kicking myself for it. But nonetheless I thought that I would discuss the immense surplus of garbage that is on our television screens. Hence the name, Reality:Revamped.

Now I'm pretty sure you all have experienced the demise of what was once a great channel, VH1, to its current status as provider of, what I like to call, Garbage Television. Since the birth of "Flavor of Love", "Flavor of Love 2", "I Love New York 1&2" and all the other shows that followed it occurred to me that American society has lost its sense of morality. The shows not only demean women, but in essence a whole race. Why is it that 90 percent of these shows only portray my black brothers and sisters as baboons who are only good for pole dancing and sucking toes? Taking full advantage of the saying "use what we got, to get what we want?" Growing up I always thought that love was when two people through time appreciate and respect one another. But what puzzles me is how can this be achieved within a month in front of a camera? Love matures with time, not with challenges that require eating a cow's testicle. It truly is absurd. I came to this conclusion as I was watching a new show "For the Love of Ray-J". In the most tasteless fashion, the show found a way to degrade women as pieces of meat, men as egotistical dogs, and that love means nothing more than busting a "tear" on the first "date". What has televesion come to?? The shows my mom grew up with had meaning and substance, and were family oriented. We've evolved from Good Times to Rock of Love. Evolved from serious topics such as JJ's girlfriend being an addict to females blatently giving oral sex to the show's suitor. When my children grow up, what will I say about the shows I witnessed? "Oh we would watch strippers slide down a pole to get into a man's heart." Huh?? I'm sorry but I can't even fathom the idea of this. That is why I say Reality TV needs to be totally revamped. We need to get back to what morals we all grew up with and dignity and pride in one another. Not the degradation of ourselves. Get back to our roots and think about the future. I'm sorry but I don't want my child handing this in for a school assignment.
Reality TV and television in general has lost its ability to send a legitimate message. Life is so much more than people battling it out for the heart of a man or woman. Its the struggle, joy and gratification of being surrounded by those that love you. Reality TV should emulate these things and project them in a manner that I won't be afraid to show my children. This is why I suggest that Reality be Revamped. If this isn't a modern day "Black Face" I don't know what is?

  2. My name is Sutton and im a student at Buff State as well & this blog you posted is very informational and true. I see you you mentioned Vh1 as garbage televisin which is a good title for the network being that the majority of television is garbage and demoralizing pinpointed towards our brothers is sisters. Your writing is very authoritative and impressive but dont kill youself over what the world and media has transpired too, if you remember they call it tv programming for a reason, the tv is a tool used to program the minds of the viewers more so the youth thats why you see most of our youth wanted to become rappers, ballers, divas, etc. It's all propaganda being portrayed as reality which is good you posted a blog like this one so you can open people eyes to the lies. Also thats a classic & meaningful pictured you posted on this blog. Email:Suttr30@mail.buffalostate.edu
